Argyle Fans Trust ISC response to PAFC staff statement 28.2.11

Set out below is a press release just sent out on behalf of the Plymouth Argyle staff and the Argyle Fans’ Trust response

PLYMOUTH Argyle staff held a meeting on Monday, February 28, following the non-payment of the February pay-roll at Home Park.

The staff believe that the current board and potential new owners should recognise that it is through goodwill and professionalism of the staff that the club continues to function on a day-to-day basis, as well as on match-day.

All staff are prepared to go the extra mile to play their part in the survival of a football club which they are have in their hearts and are proud to represent.

They are doing this despite the fact that:

i) they are not being paid, a situation which is particularly hard on the many sole breadwinners;

ii) their jobs are in greater jeopardy than ever before, especially following the 10-point deduction penalty.

The strain and pressure that the uncertainty about the future and the inability to meet individual financial commitments breeds is both unhealthy and unacceptable.

The staff have been disappointed to witness recent public messages from various members of the Argyle Board which apparently conflict, not only with each other, but with what they have been told by Independent Advisor Peter Ridsdale.

The staff support a swift resolution to the financial problems for the benefit of Plymouth Argyle Football Club and therefore urge all parties to work together assiduously to bring about a speedy conclusion to the current situation.”

Response:

The Argyle Fans Trust would like to place on record, once again, its total support for the Argyle staff and players at this very difficult time for the club. The club’s Directors are responsible ensuring that salaries are paid and the fact that they have been unable or unwilling to meet their most basic obligation is nothing more than a ‘kick in the teeth’ for the loyalty, beyond all reasonable measure, that the staff and players have shown in the most trying of circumstances.

This unacceptable position reaffirms the view of the Argyle Fans’ Trust that the future of the club should not lie in the hands of any current directors, however, we await a positive response from Mr Ridsdale to our request to meet bidders for the club to discuss how the Trust can help play its part in its revitalisation.

The Argyle Fans’ Trust notes with concern fact that Peter Ridsdale has chosen to distance himself from the day to day affairs at the club. This means that the immediate future of the club reverts to the existing Directors. Given that for many months they have not met their liabilities and responsibilities, including of course paying their staff, players and creditors, the overwhelming feeling is that the club has in effect been abandoned by them.

Administration appears to be a certainty; this brings huge and fundamental risks not least relating to the payment of his fees. As a result we are seeking an urgent meeting with the Leader of the Council to try and obtain cross party support to try and secure the future of the club. We believe that survival may hinge upon purchasing the freehold of the ground and surrounding land and that is what we will urge the Council to do so.

Our own role in the securing the future of the club will then become clearer – we restate our desire to work in partnership with the Council, and new investors to help to make this happen.

Time is of the essence – the future of our club in its 125th year is seriously at stake.

Preferred bidder – just the beginning… http://greentaverners.co.uk/argyletrust/?p=12 http://greentaverners.co.uk/argyletrust/?p=12#comments Mon, 21 Mar 2011 17:10:21 +0000 admin http://greentaverners.co.uk/argyletrust/?p=12 This is a statement for information.

The submission of bids and payment of non-refundable deposits as part of the administration process is just the beginning of what could turn out to quite a long drawn out affair with many twist and turns before a new buyer is confirmed, a new company (Plymouth Argyle F.C. Ltd 2011?) with the Football League share takes control, and we exit out of administration with an approved Company Voluntary Agreement (CVA). Brendan Guilfoyle’s article below gives an interesting backdrop.

http://www.thepandapartnership.com/Guil … rticle.pdf

I have spoken to my Crystal Palace Supporters’ Trust counterparts this week. They had an extended experience of engagement with Brendan Guilfoyle during their administration last year. The one thing that sticks in my mind is that they said there were many false dawns, many twists and turns and ultimately as some may remember it went down to the last afternoon of deadline day with liquidation to follow the next day. The principal difference between our situation and Palace’s was that Agilo, the company that put Palace into administration immediately funded Guilfoyle to the tune of £500k. Then Victor Moses was sold for c£1.9m and Neil Warnock’s departure to QPR brought in another £400k (+ £200k if QPR get promoted). Add to that reasonably sizeable gate income then it is possible to see that we are at the other end of the spectrum.

In the end the purchasers (Parrish and Long) were described as ‘reluctant bidders’ – a backstop position if no-one else took it on. Lifelong fans they stepped forward after Guilfoyle worked his way through the other 16 or so bids or expressions of interest and the twist and turns of whether anyone would take on the complicated obligations and creditor demands

Any preferred bidder tomorrow, to secure an exclusivity position, has to fund the administrator and take on as much of the day to day running costs and payment of wages that he is either willing or able to do. In this exclusive position he has to negotiate with creditors (through the administrator), pay significant sums on a weekly / monthly basis without any guarantee that ultimately that he will end up owning the club. The certainty of emerging with an agreed CVA and the Football League share will determine if and when we emerge from administration. That will include a commitment to pay the full football creditor debt (in effect the players contracts until 30th June).

The important message from all of this is that there will still be demands upon supporters to fund certain matters that the preferred bidder and / or administrator is either unwilling or unable to fund. So, for those inclined to continue to support their club financially, don’t stop giving, don’t stop fund raising. The 5 for 3 offer by the club is an admirable effort by the club to get more through the gates – Our Groundswell campaign wil do its bit to help get the waverers in. Five games left and five 10,000+ crowds is not an unreachable target.

Just for the record the Argyle Fans’ Trust have not been approached by any of the potential bidders. We do expect to be approached once a preferred bidder emerges. As many of you will know we have asked the administrator and preferred bidder to attend the open meeting of the Trust on Saturday (more details on this website and the PASOTI Fans’ Trust Forum board). We have issued a statement on the Trust’s position this evening – also on this site.

Let’s not get comfortable – tomorrow is just the beginning ….

Graham Clark, Chair, Argyle Fans’ Trust
