Argyle Fans Trust Statement
Category: News
In the light of the staff at Plymouth Argyle, once again, being asked to forego their wages, this statement was released today by the Interim Steering Committee of the Trust.
Statement – 9th June 2011
The ISC on behalf of the Argyle Fans’ Trust notes with great concern that once again the staff have been asked to defer their wages for this month. It has been said many times but it needs to be repeated: it is clear that without the fantastic loyalty of the players, staff and management of Plymouth Argyle we would no longer have a team to follow, and the previous sacrifices that have been made by these individuals should be praised, lauded and not taken for granted.
We call on those who are in the process of purchasing Plymouth Argyle Football Club to provide proper funding to the club, in order to pay the people who have ensured that they have a club to buy. It is not fair to continue to rely on the goodwill of people who have already given far more than they should ever have been asked to give.
At this time the supporters of Plymouth Argyle call on the administrator Brendon Guilfoyle to explain why, despite an injection of monies from the Preferred Bidder, via exclusivity payments, the staff are being asked to once again put their livelihoods on the line. It was our understanding that the milestone payments were intended to cover the costs up until the start of the new season – have these payments not been made? The ISC asks that a meeting with Mr Guilfoyle and supporters representatives is convened at the earliest possible opportunity to relay our concerns and get the questions that need to be asked, answered.
Please be clear: this issue once again threatens the very future of our club as supporters will be very reluctant to purchase season tickets, merchandise and invest their hard earned cash if a period of stability for Plymouth Argyle remains out of sight.
In the meantime, the Trust urges all supporters to continue to donate whatever you can afford towards the staff fund appeals that are being led by the Green Taverners. More information on this can be found at www.greentaverners.co.uk
